Medical Services

  • The surgical departments offer both open and endoscopic surgical procedures, covering areas such as endourology, laparoscopy, laser surgery, and arthroscopy.
  • In 2024, under the leadership of the Health Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the hospital’s Thoracic and Vascular Surgery service also launched a Cardiac Surgery unit, which has successfully performed around 20 cardiac surgeries to date, with ongoing operations.
  • Additionally, patients referred from the polyclinic for consultations and admissions receive outpatient treatment in the surgical departments.

Educational Services

As mentioned above, the General Surgery Department at Shaheed Sardar Mohammad Dawod khan  Hospital, under the guidance of the Medical Academy of the Armed Forces, provides clinical services alongside educational programs for military medical students and residents in specialized training programs. These educational activities include:

  • Eight academic faculty members and 21 clinical teaching staff.
  • 42 residents in specialized training from first to fourth year.
  • Military medical interns.

The educational process involves specialized training programs, military medical internships, advanced nursing education, military surgery, methodology, and research, with both practical and theoretical components.

Recently, through the tireless efforts of the leadership of the Health Directorate of the General Staff, the Military Medical Institute has been established as an independent entity within the Medical Academy, where the academic and clinical staff of the General Surgery Department actively contribute to the education of students.
