The Blood Bank Directorate has been operational since the establishment of Shaheed Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital.
- The Blood Bank Directorate functions within the Central Polyclinic and Shaheed Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital, where it actively provides services.
- The Blood Bank is fully equipped with modern medical devices, including:
- Centrifuge Machine for Plasma
- Special Freezer for Plasma Storage
- Modern Blood Refrigerators
- Blood Sealers
- Monitors for Blood Typing
- Blood Centrifuge Machines
- The daily operations of the Blood Bank include:
- Distribution of 20 to 30 units of blood to patients in need, with each unit cross-matched before distribution.
- Collection of 10 to 20 units of blood.
- Blood typing for 50 to 80 individuals.
- The Blood Bank Directorate is staffed with 6 personnel, all of whom are experienced and skilled professionals.
- The head of the Blood Bank, Captain Iqbal Ahmad “Amini”, completed his studies in Biochemistry in Turkey, specializing in advanced laboratory techniques.
Activities conducted at the Blood Bank include:
- Isolation of Plasma and Platelets from blood.
- Performing the Coombs test.
- Conducting serological tests such as:
- HBS Ag (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen)
- HCV (Hepatitis C Virus)
- HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
- VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test)
- These serological tests are performed before blood is collected from donors.
- Blood typing.
- Completing health forms for Ministry of Defense personnel.
- Collecting blood for patients through planned donations from central units and branches of the Ministry of Defense. Before donating, personnel receive nutritional supplements provided by the Health Directorate, and then their blood is collected.
- Mujahedeen and hospital staff who visit the Blood Bank for donations first undergo a health check, including blood pressure monitoring, to ensure they are eligible to donate. They also receive nutritional supplements from the Blood Bank Directorate before blood is collected from them.
